UDOKANMA LODGE - No. 9924 (2016)

The Lodge was consecrated on Saturday, 21st May, 2016 at Transtell Suites & Service Departments, Plot SH/14 Evan Enwerem Avenue, (Behind CBN) Off Port Harcourt Road Owerri, Imo State.

On 3, February 1976 Imo state was created, resulting in the urbanization of the Owerri as its capital. The Scottish constitution promptly set up Owerri Lodge which has persisted till date. But it was never a substitute for an English Lodge.

Precisely thirty years later, in 2006, WBro.Omani Ekezie and Anthony Ujubuonu became inspired and spear headed the formation of an English Lodge in Owerri. The proposed founding mother Lodge was Northern Nigerian Lodge No. 3325 and it had the Eastern Glory Lodge. Unfortunately this spirited attempt never materialized in spite of the over whelming enthusiasm.

A fresh energizing impetus for an English Lodge Owerri was provided by the District Grand Master of Nigeria, R.W.Bro.Olorogun Moses O.Taiga. This was in line with his policy drive to bring English Masonry to diverse locations in the country. Simultaneously W.Bro. Lucky Nwachuku ADGM came on board.

A name change became imminent given the revised vision of the proposed Lodge. After an extensive research and consultations, the District Grand Master gave his accent to the name Udokanma Lodge, during our meetings in Grand Lodge, London in 2014. The rest is now history.

Aba Lodge No.9172 was the sponsoring Lodge. The presiding Worshipful Master W. Bro Oleh became privileged in history as a master who presided over the founding and formation of two Lodges. He had previously presided over the motion for formation of Umuahia Lodge No.9883.

Thirteen Brethren signed the petition for the formation of Udokanma Lodge to the Most Worshipful The Grand Master, the Duke of Kent with is Founding Charter Master as W.Bro C. J.Okoro. The Consecration was done on 21st, May 2016 at Owerri, precisely forty years after the creation of Imo state and Owerri as capital.

The founding vision of Udokanma Lodge is SERVICE and RELEVANCE to the community. Thus the Logo of Udokanma is eminently illustrated by the fundamentals of our community which are Kolanut and Tusk. The Kolanut is the symbol of harmony and peaceful co-existence in the pursuit of individual and communal happiness, while the Tusk symbolizes authority and power traditionally bestowed on distinguished contributions by individuals or groups, within the community for industry, charity and tradition.
