Following the resignation of R.W. Bro. J. A. Pickels in 1920, the third District Grand Master to be appointed was R.W. Bro. H. J. Hyde-Johnson.
At the time of his appointment, he was the Director of Education and stationed at Lagos. He was installed as District Grand Master at the Annual Communication of the District Grand Lodge held at St. George’s Hall, Lagos on 29th January, 1921 by W. Bro. Hon. Kitoyi Ajasa P.D.G.W. Hyde-Johnson held the rank of District Grand Master until he resigned at the end of 1925 when he retired from Nigeria on pension.
He died in the United Kingdom on 11th December, 1949.
