General Hospital Gwarinpa
WBro Patrick Nwankwo joined me as well as WBro Dr Jude Okonkwo (who was summoned to the Hospital Theatre so he couldn’t join us in meeting the medical Director) We were received by the Medical Director of the Hospital Dr Isaac Musa and Dr Inhna who after making a brief introduction and the presentation was made on behalf of the District, The Medical Director thanked the District and assured us that they will be put to good use and that the Accident and Emergency department have in recent times been having cases of Covid-19 but they have been able to handle them and forward the same to the isolation centers in Abuja he hoped that from time to time the district may wish make any donation of any form they shall be willing to receive with thanks. On leaving the Gwarinpa General Hospital, Treasure Home and Orphanage called me that a representative of the Home shall meet- up with me to receive the donation.
Police Station - Apo Legislative Quarters
Assistant Superintendent of Police Ms Sylvia Mnema received the Donation from the District On behalf of the Station and greatly thanked the District for the gift she did mention that even though is in the vicinity of the central area due to their remote location they tend to be missed in donations and that for a long time this is the second donation they have had and she wondered how we got to know of their predominant need, I informed her that it was a location suggested by one of our Past Masters, she thanked and prayed for the progress of the district Grand lodge of Nigeria.
Treasure Home and orphanage
This orphanage is dear to the heart of Abuja English Masons and have always enjoyed the support of Masons in Abuja since WBro Chief DB Afilaka introduced the home to Masons sometime ago. Ms Emmanuella met with me and also the “Madam Treasure” as she is fondly called in to thank the District Grand losge for the donation and the constant support of Masons in Abuja.
It must also be mentioned here that Keystone Centenary Lodge No 9923 held a “Gala Nite” last year to raise Hundred of Thousands of Naira in support of the treasure Home and orphanage.
City of Refuge Orphanage
This Orphanage has been supported by Northern Nigeria Lodge No3325 and WBro Stephen Ikezahu suggested that due to the regular visitations by the general public they ought to have as part of our own support. Being close to town centre, there is the tendency for the children and Staff and volunteers to be vulnerable to the spread of Covid- 19.
I also the considered to donate some Masks and sanitizers to the staff of the Venues where we meet, as you may well be aware that Abuja is peculiar and has no built Temple(virtually work in progress), 12 members of staff of facilities department that make our stay in Hotel De Bently Utako, as well as 6 members of staff in Signature house service and security as a show of care and concern for their well being. On the whole the Efforts of the District was appreciated in most cases well timed with precision as regards the needs of the places visited, there may be need for consideration in the future if there is any other opportunity from the District Grand Lodge of Nigeria.
